Our top tips for companies in connection with Coronavirus

May 2020

We recently wrote to you to remind you that Baxters are here to support and guide you in relation to your insurance requirements.

So, what should you be considering and are your existing insurance arrangements sufficient for your current and ongoing needs? Whilst not an exhaustive list, the following are just some questions you may be asking yourself.

1. Since the Covid-19 pandemic we’ve expanded/changed our business activities. Will our existing policy provide cover for these changes?

2. Are our contents and equipment adequately covered if away from our business premises?

3. Our business premises are still closed, or vacant, are the covers under my current policy still valid?

4. Do our current sums insureds need reviewing considering potential changes to our trading output or supply chains?

5. Does our current Health & Safety risk assessment cater for new working practices and do we have written guidelines in place for employees relating to their new work environment?

6. We have opened, or will shortly be opening, our doors for business following latest government guidelines. What actions do we need to take to ensure we remain compliant in relation to social distancing, PPE usage and good hygiene?

7. With the potential exposure for claims against the business, or individuals within our business, greater than ever, do we currently buy Directors & Officers (D&O) and Employers Practices Liability (EPL) cover and if so, do our current limits remain adequate?

8. Do we currently buy Cyber insurance protection? Remote working and dependence on technology has increased our exposure to potential losses from cyber criminals. How would the business survive if we couldn’t access our computer records including emails?

9. Have we updated our business continuity plans in light of recent events?

10. Are our existing protection policies (life assurance, share protection, keyman, Private Medical), still suitable for our needs?
